What is CraftMyPDF? The product, the company behind it and how it handles data

Last materially reviewed 2026-10-03

Quick answerCraftMyPDF is a cloud PDF and image generation service: you design a template in a drag-and-drop editor, send JSON data, and get a PDF back. It is run by Alphacloud Technologies in Singapore.

CraftMyPDF in one paragraph

CraftMyPDF is a web service that turns a reusable template plus JSON data into a PDF or an image. You design the template in a browser-based drag-and-drop editor, then generate documents through a REST API or a no-code connector such as Zapier, Make.com, Bubble.io or n8n. Typical outputs named on its site are invoices, reports, certificates, labels and contracts.

The vendor also lists e-signature requests, fillable PDF form components, a PDF filler that detects fields in existing PDFs, and a white-label version of the editor that can be embedded in another product. This page is based on the vendor's published documentation, not on hands-on use.

Who makes CraftMyPDF

According to its About page, CraftMyPDF was built in June 2021 by Jacky Tan, and the team is based in Singapore. The Terms of Use name the contracting company as Alphacloud Technologies Pte Ltd, registered in Singapore.

The same About page describes APITemplate.io as a sister product that offers HTML to PDF conversion. That matters if you are comparing the two: they come from the same team. See CraftMyPDF vs APITemplate.io for how they differ.

How CraftMyPDF works, step by step

  1. Create a template in the editor and add text, tables, images, charts, barcodes or QR codes.
  2. Bind fields to sample JSON data. Expressions wrapped in double curly braces format dates, numbers and totals.
  3. Copy the template ID and your API key from the API Integration tab.
  4. Send a request to POST /v1/create with template_id and data, or use a connector.
  5. Receive either a link to the PDF or the file itself, depending on export_type.

The request details are in our CraftMyPDF API guide.

Is CraftMyPDF safe? What its security page states

On its own evidence, CraftMyPDF is a legitimate, established service with documented security controls. These are the vendor's statements, read on 3 October 2026. We have not seen the audit report itself.

Security and data statements from CraftMyPDF's own pages
TopicWhat the vendor states
AuditIt has completed a SOC 2 Type II audit
HostingRuns on Amazon Web Services, with regional API endpoints in the US, Europe, Singapore and Australia
EncryptionHTTPS in transit. Templates stored in an encrypted AWS database. Generated files stored on AWS S3 with encryption at rest
AccessAPI access needs a key that you can regenerate on demand
API logsKept for up to 14 days for troubleshooting, and logging can be switched off
PaymentsProcessed by Stripe. Card details are not stored by the vendor
Data Processing AgreementAvailable from the Lite plan upward, on request by email

How long CraftMyPDF keeps generated PDFs

Retention depends on how you call the API, and you control it:

  • With export_type set to file, the PDF is returned as binary data and the vendor says it does not store it.
  • With export_type set to json, the PDF goes to the vendor's CDN behind a pre-signed link. The expiration parameter defaults to 5 minutes and can be set from 1 minute to 10,080 minutes, which is 7 days. Expired files are purged periodically.
  • With Bring Your Own Storage, files upload straight to your own AWS S3 bucket. This starts on the Professional plan at $99 a month, as read on 3 October 2026.

For reports containing personal or financial data, the file option or your own bucket is the cautious choice.

Billing, refunds and who should choose something else

There is a free plan with 50 PDFs a month and no card required, so nothing has to be paid to evaluate it. Paid plans can be canceled at any time and run to the end of the paid period. The Terms of Use say cancellations are not refunded, with requests considered case by case. Full figures are in our CraftMyPDF pricing page.

CraftMyPDF suits small teams that want visual templates and an API. Teams that need a HIPAA commitment should look at a vendor that states one, such as DocRaptor, because CraftMyPDF's security page does not mention HIPAA. Teams with existing HTML layouts are better served by an HTML to PDF product.
