Side-by-side comparison

CraftMyPDF vs APITemplate.io: two sister products with different editors and prices

Last materially reviewed 2026-10-03

Quick answerThey are sister products. APITemplate.io is cheaper per PDF up to 25,000 a month and accepts HTML. CraftMyPDF has the drag-and-drop editor and published plans up to 150,000 PDFs.

CraftMyPDF and APITemplate.io come from the same team

CraftMyPDF and APITemplate.io are sister products, so the choice is about template style and volume, not about which company to trust. CraftMyPDF's About page says the team also offers HTML to PDF conversion through APITemplate.io. Both sites state a SOC 2 Type II audit, and both list regional endpoints in the US, Europe, Singapore and Australia.

In short: pick APITemplate.io if you write HTML or want the lowest cost per PDF under 25,000 documents a month. Pick CraftMyPDF if a non-developer designs the layout, or if you need more than 25,000 documents a month on a published plan.

Entry prices on 3 October 2026

CraftMyPDF Lite costs $29 a month, or $290 a year, for 1,200 PDFs and 6 templates. APITemplate.io's PDF Basic plan costs $24 a month on monthly billing for 3,000 PDFs and 20 templates. On annual billing the page shows $19 a month for the same plan and says annual billing saves up to 20%. All figures are in US dollars, read on each vendor's pricing page on 3 October 2026.

Both have a Free plan with the same headline numbers: 50 documents a month and 3 templates, with no card required.

APITemplate.io sells two plan families. PDF-only plans start at PDF Basic. Image plus PDF plans start at Starter, $35 a month on monthly billing, for 1,500 images or PDFs. CraftMyPDF has one family, and its allowance covers PDFs or images.

At 3,000 PDFs a month the gap is clear: $49 on CraftMyPDF Plus against $24 on APITemplate.io PDF Basic. At 40,000 a month the position reverses, because APITemplate.io has no published plan that size and CraftMyPDF Premium covers it for $299.

What each does that the other does not

Only APITemplate.io: PDF generation from raw HTML or a live URL. Its site lists an HTML to PDF API, a URL to PDF API and a Markdown to PDF API, with custom CSS and JavaScript in templates. If your documents already exist as web pages, this avoids rebuilding them. Our HTML to PDF API guide explains when that route is worth it.

Only CraftMyPDF: the drag-and-drop template editor aimed at people who do not write HTML, fillable PDF form components, e-signature requests, and a published 150,000-document plan. Its site also describes a white-label editor that can be embedded in your own product.

Who should choose which

  • APITemplate.io: developers with HTML and CSS skills, anyone converting existing web pages, and teams between 3,000 and 25,000 PDFs a month who want the lower bill.
  • CraftMyPDF: operations or finance staff who maintain report layouts themselves, teams that need e-signatures or fillable fields, and volumes of 40,000 PDFs a month and above.

The CraftMyPDF tiers are set out in full on our CraftMyPDF pricing page.

Switching between the two

Sharing a parent team does not mean shared accounts or templates. Neither site describes a template import from the other, and the two use different API hosts and separate API keys. Treat a switch as a rebuild:

  1. Recreate each template in the other product's editor. An HTML template has no direct equivalent in a drag-and-drop layout.
  2. Check that field names and nested arrays still map to your JSON data.
  3. Update the endpoint, key and any Zapier or Make connection.
  4. Compare a batch of real documents from both before canceling the old plan.

Because both have a free plan with 50 documents, you can test the same report in each without paying. Our first report template guide gives a sensible test case.
