Fit long text without hiding the message

Last materially reviewed 2026-10-01

Quick answerPrefer readable continuation over clipping, tiny type or invented summaries.
What to know

Use several kinds of long text

A long paragraph, a multiline address-like label and a single unbroken identifier stress a layout differently. Our local case generator creates fictional variants so you can specify what should happen. They are not evidence of a product defect. Set input limits from the real report requirement and inspect outputs at those limits.

What to know

Approve what may change

A note may expand onto another page, while an identifier must remain exact. A title might permit an author-approved shorter version. Do not silently truncate required information or ask a generator to summarize it just to preserve a visual design. If an input exceeds the accepted boundary, hold it with a clear reason.

What to know

Inspect line spacing and neighboring elements

A paragraph that fits can still collide with the following table or leave its heading detached. Check the first and last lines, spacing between sections and the final page. Test punctuation, line breaks and an unusually long word. Verify the actual PDF, not only the editor’s thumbnail.

What to know

Keep readability part of acceptance

Reducing every font until a report fits may solve overflow while making the report unusable. Establish a readable type size and page structure for the intended audience. If content consistently exceeds that design, revise the document structure rather than repeatedly treating ordinary reports as exceptions.

What to know

Worked acceptance rule

For a fictional approved note ending END-OF-NOTE, require that marker to appear exactly once and remain readable in the exported file. Inspect the full paragraph too: a marker alone cannot reveal omitted text in the middle. If the note continues onto a second page, check its heading and following table. This simple marker is a test aid, not something to add to real client text or a substitute for review.
