Quick answerApprove display conventions before fitting them into a report.
What to know

Avoid ambiguous period labels

The string 03/04 can be read differently by different audiences. Decide the report’s locale and use an unambiguous approved period label where possible. Keep the underlying value separate from its presentation. This guide does not calculate taxes, exchange currencies or determine the legally correct format for a jurisdiction.

What to know

Leave room for real words

A narrow field that fits a short English month may fail with longer text. Use synthetic labels that are longer than the usual example, including accents and punctuation appropriate to the audience. Confirm the actual output font supports required characters. A browser preview of the source is not proof that an exported PDF embeds or renders them correctly.

What to know

Test numeric display without changing meaning

If a report includes approved numbers, document decimal precision, separators, negative-value notation and units. Treat rounding as a source-owner decision, not a layout shortcut. For a fictional quantity 1.25, inspect whether the final page preserves the approved display and unit. Do not compare visually similar strings as though they establish computational correctness.

What to know

Include reviewers who can judge the result

Ask an authorized reviewer familiar with the intended language and conventions to inspect representative samples. Save their specific acceptance criteria alongside the template. Right-to-left text, mixed scripts and specialized typography require relevant testing; our English synthetic case pack does not establish support for them.

What to know

Worked display check

A fictional report uses ID 0042, quantity 1.25 hours and period 4 March 2026. Keep the ID unchanged and have the source owner approve the display of quantity and date for the audience. Try a longer period label and inspect wrapping in the same box. Passing this English example does not establish another locale’s conventions, another script’s rendering or the accuracy of any underlying calculation.
